I just got a new Cannon digital camera. I want to get a better long range zoom lens. I have a 75-300 now. Does anybody have any recommendations that wont break the bank.

Thanks
Phil

What is your budget. Dont break the bank is kind of vague.

Hi Phil, when you say you want a "better long range zoom lens".... what specifically do you mean by the term "better"? Is it longer range, i.e. 400mm, 500mm 600mm or more or is it better image quality than what your 300mm zoom can provide?

Secondly, do you have a maximum budget that you can spend? Third, is your Canon a full frame or a crop sensor camera as this may determine what lens is appropriate for your camera once you have answered the first two questions. Fourth, what is it that you want to do with this "better" zoom lens, asuming it is a zoom lens that you need to do what you want to do. Come on back with answers to each of these questions and there are many folks here on the forum that can give you good suggestions for your consideration.
Best regards,

Garth

The latest Canon 55-250 STM is really hard to beat ! If you must get to 300mm, the latest 70-300 nano is good.
If AF speed is not a concern, the older Canon 100-300 L lens is quite good !

I don't think you'll find much in that price range.
A good idea would be to go to B&H or another reputable dealer and see what they have to offer.

Nothing. Sorry. You will have to commit and be willing to spend more or stay with that lens which is probably the worse lens in the whole Canon lineup.

Mav, welcome to the Hog!
If you can go a 100 or 2 more you can probably find a very used and beat-up 100-400L. That is an awesome lens but might be a bit bigger than what you're used to! Good luck

A lot of beginners are surprised to discover good lenses can cost more...sometimes a lot more than a body.
Good lenses are an investment, bodies are almost disposable these days.
KEH is a good place to buy used camera equipment.

You can take quality shots with the lens you have. Take a look at today's posted photos. Composition is the compelling quality that gets my attention. You can add quality to your shots using Lightroom and Photo Shop. I'm not convinced $300 will be a game changer.

You do say what you mean by better. Are you talking longer focal length? Better quality? Depends how much money you have in the bank.

The next step would seem to be a 150-600mm.

What brand, and 70-300 doesn't tell us much either. Are you looking for a Prime Lens or another telephoto? New or used? I seriously doubt that your budget of $100-$300 will buy you a high quality 300mm+ lens. My Tamron 70-300mm for my Canon 60D cost more that $300 several years ago.
