Not to be rude, but your photos are out of focus. Try a higher shutter speed or a tripod. If it was a windy day and the subject matter was blowing, that may also cause the problem. The other issue would be that you bought a very nice lens with a large aperture, use it. The subject matter should be in focus, with the rest being bokah. Open your aperture to f/1.4 and see if the results are more appealing. Please do not take this critique as negative, but rather an inspiration to try something new.

I would get rid of that lens! It makes Poison Sumac look just like a trumpet flower

Thanks for the comment. I thought the focus was a bit off, but wasn't sure it if it was just my old eyes.
I'm going to try the lens on the D7200 to see if it's any better. If not, I will try to tweak the AF.

....i think you will find that 1.2 and 1.4 aperature lenses wide open are challenging to lock in a perfect focus. You could try some testing and then make micro-adjatments.

My 50mm 1.4 is brutal on AF... I sometimes will go Manual focus and move the lens back and forth across the subjects eye taking several shots just to be sure I get something I can work with.

The lens at f1.4 will have a VERY shallow depth of field. Use it for effect or at a distance in dim situations. That lens at f8 should be very sharp. What were your settings?

Muscadine at f/5, sumac at f/3.2.

Camera movement for the first one, but the second one looks great.
