Does anyone use this? And should you buy the strap to hold it on the camera or do you hold it on yourself. Thanks

I use one and it comes with a strap. If you use it a lot for close-ups or video they also have a permanent holder that screws onto your camera for it.

What is the strap they show that wraps around the front of the camera. It cost 19.99 what is your strap used for?

Agree, when I remember to bring it. Yesterday I forgot it and was shooting waterfalls with an ND filter. Very difficult to determine the effects in late day sun. I'll remember next time.

I owned one and used it until I gave it to my son along with the Nikon 1 S1 camera we both use it with. I did not use a strap with mine and I don't think my son does either. The S1 does not have a viewfinder so I considered it essential to use a lupe with that camera. Especially on sunny days.

I don't have that accessory. The strap I have is for hanging around your neck.....

Their just basic straps that hold the loop on the camera. They are cheaper than the base plate but if you only need to strap it on for short periods and want a quick on and off they work. Here's the base plate:

I bought one and don't use it because it is a pain to user. I wasted the money.

I made my own out of a plastic 4$ slide viewer. I took off the slide holder, covered the edges with clear door molding and added a string to wear around my neck.

That is the main reason I use a base plate with mine.

I have one and the strap. I use it as an EVF and it sure helps these old fading eyes. Recommended!

I have used a Hoodman Loupe for about 5 years. I always regret it if I forget to hang it around my neck when going out, especially on a sunny day. It is almost impossible to see the LCD screen when there is a lot of light, so you cannot review your images to see if settings need to be adjusted. [Shading with your hand is not enough, and finding a darker, shady spot is not always convenient.] Better than guessing and having to delete or do a lot of work in PP.

Using the strap that comes with it is what I consider the best way to use it. Since you have it right there around your neck, it is very easy to review the pictures holding it on yourself. If you are OK with using your viewfinder, attaching the Loupe with the other kind of strap would interfere with that. However, for those who want to use Live View all the time, because it is a larger image, attaching it with that strap would be OK. LV drains the battery faster, so for a long day's shooting you would need to carry spare batteries.

The one I have comes with a neck lanyard, which I secure to a "D" ring on my vest and stuff it in a pocket. Works incredibly well when Chimping in bright light or when using Live View outside. Mine has the magnetic holder which makes it incredibly useful to secure to the camera.
