Film photographers, advice and suggestions for an ocean trip

Leaving in a couple of days for the Georgia coast, Savannah and Saint Simons Island area. Of course I am taking my DSLR cameras. But I just remembered my Nikon SLR 80 film camera. I have a couple of rolls of a Fujifilm 400 that I can use. And just ordered a roll of Kodak Ektar 100 that should be here in time before I leave.

As I said I will be mainly using my Sony a6000 and but just think this is a wonderful opportunity to shoot film again and hope for the best. I only have one lens that fits my my Nikon SLR, it is a a 50mm, D lens, 1.8. I recall that the last time I used this film SLR I tried my DX lenses on it,, but I had some significant vignetting at wide apertures. So, if I wanted to use my DX 18-70 lens or DX 55-200 mm lens, what advice could you give me. Of course, I know the the latter two lenses are manual focus.

Depending upon the outcomes of this shooting event, I may want to look at more types of color 35mm film.
Thanks

Very few dx lenses will cover full frame. I would only use a full frame lens. 50mm is a great focal length. I would use that exclusively.

If you had asked your question more in advance we might have suggested renting a lens - www.lensrentals.com.

Depending on where you live, you may be able to rent a lens from a local camera shop, or just use the 50 and see if you really want to get into film again. If you do, the F80 will work with all AF, AF-D and G lenses, and some of them can be gotten used for bargain prices. Just make sure that you only use FX (full frame) lenses on this camera.

The 18-70 and the 55-200 are both AF lenses. I am not aware that those lenses were made for manual focus only.
If you have a camera that uses the whole frame, like your present camera, it makes no sense to use lenses for cropped bodies. Vignettes will be apparent as you shoot. Use lenses designed for full frame cameras.
Under sunny bright conditions like those encountered at the ocean my choice would have been ISO 100 film exclusively. I could go with ISO 200 but never faster than that.
Do not forget a polarizer.

No suggestions on lenses for Nikon. For Sony suggest picking up a Samyang manual focus 12MM f/2 for scapes and low light wide angle. Terrific lens at a very reasonable price IMO. This lens is branded under several names. I found Samyang to be less expensive (B&H) than the Rokinon. Same lens. Watch BradZchef youtube video as he demonstrates how to set up the a6000 / 12mm combo and use it like a P&S for those quick shots. Gotta love the a6000. For travel - I prefer going wider in most cases, but that's me. Have a great trip.

I have a Nikon D7100 & for film a Nikon FE. I bought the same 50mm you referenced as a short telephoto for the DSLR and fond it a really great "normal" for the FE. It works fine with the AI and the manual focus works well too.
