Bridge..Lumix TZ80

Since the current Bridge discussion has caught my attention, I need help from 'seasoned bridge' users.

I'm brand new to the bridge camera idea, but I listened to you all a month ago when I wanted to take one to Europe with us, so I bought a Lumix TZ80. It has done a rather nice job, both RAW and .jpg. This camera has more options than my Canon 5DII. Wow.

I set the focus to center spot only, so I see a box as my focusing spot. However, the dang thing keeps moving all over the place. My fault, I know, for the camera has a touch screen. So when I focus/compose at "eye level", which I like a great deal, I find my right thumb may "touch" the lcd screen and the focus spot moves around, to where my right thumb touched the lcd screen. I've read through the 300+ pages of instruction (there goes another tree - no, I read it online), but I cannot find a way to ""freeze"" the focus box/point so that it doesn't move around.

Anyone have a solution for me? And if so, Thank You So Much.

Hi Elliott, I have the LX100, but I think most of these Lumix's have similar menus (and quirks).
If you can, go in to the AF Mode menu (you can do it via the Q Menu if the TZ80 has one) and change the setting to One Area or Pinpoint, that might do it. I think it only moves around the screen if you have the 49 area mode selected.
I really am guessing here as theR LX100 doesnt have a touch screen.
Regards

Actually, I think the 49 area may stop the moving. I already have it set for just one focus spot. And that is the spot that I can't seem to "freeze" in the center, but move to any location where your finger touches the lcd screen.

Yes, I have it set for pin-point. And the box still moves anywhere a finger might brush the back lcd screen.

What mode are you shooting in, aperture/shutter priority, program or auto? In some cameras, if you you are in auto, the fucusing will want to hunt around to various points in a scene. My G16 does that. Also, if you are in continuous AF, IT maydo the same thing. In any case, your ultimate so,ution may be to not put ypur thumb on the screen unless you need to change your focus point. Change to single point AF and see if it does the same thing.

I am always shooting in S or A, so I can control the shutter speed or aperture size. I never use auto modes. And, about that thumb suggestion? One thing I really like about the Lumix TZ80 is that I can hold it up to my eye (not look at a screen on the back of the camera), and use the 'ring' around the lens to select the shutter speed. When doing all that, I dare anyone to keep their right thumb from touching the back screen. :)

I guess cuz my left eye is my dominant eye, I don't seem to have that problem with my FZ200 bridge camera. Anyway, it was just a thought.
