Hi all,

I have a 17 night trip to greece and the Islands coming up and was thinking of getting a P&S with 4K movie capability to complement my Pentax K5-IIs & lenses. Looking at the Panasonic ZS100 or the LX10 (budget allows this $$). Daytime will probably be the K5-IIs and also some night shots. So I am leaning towards the LX10 for the 4K movies through the day & night.

Any opinions out there?

Thanks, Richard

Why not? A compact is nice for traveling, and 4K movies will (should) be better than non-4K. Of course, you will need an appropriate screen for viewing.

For me it would be either the lx10 or the lx100, with me leaning toward the lx100 for the larger sensor and evf.

Do you have the skill to utilize the 4K capabilities of a camera that will make it noticeably different from what you have now? Go for it if you wish but under the conditions likely encountered and no special lighting etc. You might not see a whole big difference if any.

Are you referring to basic family travel movies? Unless you are planning to exhibit your work on a large 4K television screen, you should stick to your current equipment. Also, have you considered the software required to edit 4K movies? Some of the older and popular editors do not have the capability. God luck with your trip!

For around $75 you can get a nice little GoPro clone and a 32 gb micro SD chip. Most come with a waterproof case and a plethora of mount adapters. I prefer those with a Sony processor. Add another $15 or so and you get a remote that's good for video and photos. Just a thought....

Lx10 does have a Sony sensor in it.

I wonder how would one play 4K video? I know it's possible to connect a 4K monitor or 4K TV to the computer and play it that way. I am just wondering if we have some other way like playing to the TV via some source of 4K player? I know there are 4K blu ray players now but can we burn a 4K blu ray?

Why not get something like the Yuneec Action Cam? Then you can use it semi-professionally and stablised, then place it on one of their drones for additional video or single shot abilities. Just saying...

Thanks for the responses. Sorry to take so long to get back in touch. Two day overnighter with three granddaughters takes a toll and all my time!
I was planning on showing the 4k movies on my 4k TV (Sammy 55mu9000) but I noticed that someone was concerned about how to accomplish this feat. And I will probably not be doing any serious editing beyond removing frames. Question is can I do this with CC LP/PS od do I need a new program. If so, my Sony Bloggie os Sammy 6Edge phone may see some action. Otherwise, it seems that people lean towards lx10 or lx100. This is to replace the aging lx3.

Honestly either one of those cameras are a good replacement for the lx3. Heck, I'd replace my lx7 with either one of those if I had the funds.

Thinking about getting a good used LX3.
