Definitely photography! Well, based on it then! As a short respite from trying to achieve a fine art effect, here's a very simple composite using photographs as a guide for the pen tool in Ps. Promise I won't post too many of these non-photographic photographs. Do you like the effect?

Don't beat yourself up for wanting to experiment. Did you intend for it to look like the guy's floating in clouds?

I chose clouds as the sea background looked a bit dull. You can order your print either way RG, it's an easy change. Just teasing, you might not want a print!

I think this has satisfied my appetite for primary colours for the time being . How about clouds with a ripple texture (what's reality got to do with anything? ).

Well it should really be on a poster-like flat blue ground with a few vector-produced ripples I suppose but, like you, I may have had enough of those colours for now. Thanks for the input RG.

Thank you Frank. Don't think you'll be seeing too many like this from me BUT, it's a first step in combining drawn with photographed, so eventually, used in a more subtle manner, the method may get incorporated into my composites. I'm thinking adding sails, or modifying a hull, that sort of thing.

Thanks Edie. Certainly had fun doing it. My reply to Frank explains how it came about and the use I hope to make of the method employed.

I love the colorful graphics, lines and shapes of the sails + the buoy. I see a man being impaled by the staff and floating on clouds, so I can't help but wish for a little dinghy in that section

I did think about giving the dinghy a bit more form to make it stand out against the background - but like your interpretation Linda!
