Hi, Newby here
Taking a 24 day river cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam in August; any hints?
I will have my Canon 40D with 3 lenses: 28-135, fisheye 15mm, and 70-200 2.8 L with ef1.4 extender
Welcome to the "Hog', Fisherman! I love the trip you'll be going on. Mine will be in the USA. Does this make it a photo-safari? I love that you have Canon...I accidently bought Nikon this time..I did use my friends 50D and the same 70-200 zoom. Wow, is that a sweet lens!
Hope you have fun and you should be getting more replies here soon

Welcome to UHH, enjoy your trip, looking forward to seeing some great photos when you get back. If it were me going I would be sure to take bug repellent  .

Wish I was going on a vacation. I don't know what kind of budget you have but I'd look into getting a wider mm lens. 28mm isn't very wide and I'm sure you're going to want to take some Landscapes on your trip. Canon and Sigma both have a 10mm - 20mm lens. The Canon is expensive but is incredible, the Sigma is almost as good and much less expensive. You might even be able to rent a lens atyour local Photography shop. I hope this helps you. Have a good time.
Welcome to the forum, Fishinman. Can you drop a line in off the back of the cruise ship?? LOL
The only suggestion I have is you might want to carry a monopod to help steady the long lens.
For my travels, I like taking a long lens around at around 400 mm. You don't always use it out that far, but when you need it, you got it! You might be able to do that with a 2.0 extender, but at the cost of auto focus.
My wife did a bike-n-barge down the river in Amsterdam. There's a lot of photographic potential there. It's on my bucket list.
Ya, you can rent lens from Borrowlens.com. Before I got my Nikkor 10-24 zoom lens for Christmas this year, that's what I would do....rent a wide ange for vacation. Gives you a chance to see if you like the lens and it's not that costly.
For a river cruise, or any reflecting surfaces, take a circular polariser. For those horizons/skylines take a soft graduated Filter, say ND2 and an ND4.
Enjoy your trip

Welcome to the hog. I'm envious... i hate you.... (joke), my wife and I are planning the same river cruise only from the black sea to amsterdam. (the 27 day river cruise) Only, it will take another couple of years to save up the fare. You will certainly get some absolutely beautiful pics. Yes, I agree make sure you have a polarizing filter. A lot of places you will be shooting at an up angle. So a filter will be good for the sky. Anyhow welcome and good luck. I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of the trip.
Welcome to the HOG. Enjoy the cafes in Amsterdam....I
did..
Yeah,
I like to drink coffee, also ...
I have a Tiffen Variable ND filter and a B+ W circular polorizing filter ...
