Discussions elsewhere have caused me to think about how I compose pictures; I've come to realize that my photography often developed a theme, even when I wasn't specifically thinking in those terms. I recently scanned some film from our 1998 vacation, and I was struck by the number of pictures which emphasized the power, not the beauty, of Niagara Falls.
added: I'm thinking now I may have used my pocket camera, one of those clamshells Olympus made, to take these pictures. My first SLR, a Pentax, was ruined after it got damp at Niagara, so I've always been a little paranoid about mist since then, and I may have been willing to risk the Olympus because I was so determined to get these pictures.
Beginning of climb to Hurricane Deck
This one definitely counts as a snapshot. The last person in line is my then 7-year-old daughter; in a few minutes she would be dancing with joy because her body could not contain the emotion she felt standing under the Falls on the Hurricane Deck
From island between the two falls
Close up and personal with Canadian Falls - always my favorite view
Great shots. I have to get back there some day.
Really fantastic, very well done images, rehess! I share your grandaughter's joy at being that close to the falls; they awe-striking!
