More doubts about the UK's prime minister's judgement arise from recently released documents on her dealings with serial fraudster and conman Charles Henry Mogford, a Maidenhead constituent of hers who has just left jail.

Last year it emerged that Teresa May had successfully lobbied to get a £500,000-plus taxpayer-funded loan for Mugford's troubled Land Rover dealership, which duly went bust owning more than £1m.

A simple Google search would have revealed that Mogford had just returned from the US having served a ten-year stint for multiple counts of grand theft and theft of state funds through which his luxury boat business in Florida.

Letters now released under the Freedom of Information Act show that just as May, who was then home secretary, was helping secure a loan through the enterprise finance guarantee, she was also lobbying Crossrail to pay the crook six-figure compensation. Fortunately, unlike May, Crossrail smelt a greedy rat and refused to pay up.
Mogford spun a line to May that his financial problems were related to the relocation of his company, Auto Ex Ltd, to make way for the Crossrail high-speed link to London. However, the real cause was failed investments worth £300,000.

Mogford asked Crossrail to compensate him to the tune of £400,000.

It, however, was concerned about why one Mogford company was seeking compensation on behalf of another and asked for more information about his business and lease. Rather than supply it, Mogford turned to May, who in June 2014 wrote to Crossrail's chief executive that it was "important" Mogford's company got "prompt compensation" and sought assurance that this would be resolved without the need for Auto Ex "to resort to legal action (which they are preparing)".

May wrote again in July to express her "extreme concern", repeating Mogford's false claim that he had supplied all the information and Crossrail was "deliberately stalling".

Two months later, Auto Ex went bust owing more than £1m to over 120 businesses and individuals, some of them in May's constituency, as well as £528,000 in unpaid VAT and corporation tax.
Mogford, 54, was subsequently arrested for covering up a £86,000 VAT fraud by claiming tax back on 31 Land Rovers when he had only bought two. Just weeks after May became prime minister in August 2016; Mogford pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years.

A spokesperson for Mrs May's parliamentary office said: "Any Maidenhead resident is entitled to attend Mrs May's constituency surgeries to raise issues of concern.
Like any MP, she will invariably raise the issue with the relevant body and where appropriate, ask for it to be looked into.

This case was handled in the usual way".

What part of "where appropriate" did she not understand?

I'm not saying that you're wrong. But you do realise that "Private Eye" is a satirical magazine don't you?
