One other point.......the drivers will normally stop when there is something of interest and will wait until the group is ready to go. Our driver would backup or go forward when asked. After all they want to make you happy and increase their tips.
have a great trip. I would love to go back.
another point never try to shot in live view.........lock in your arms and get a steady as you can. Use bbf or spot metering and shoot in burst when possible.

Thanks for the quick reply. I certainly appreciate your help. The pictures were super. Sure hope I can do as well. I must admit that I never thought about vibration while the motor is running and the vehicle is stopped. I know I can't hold the 600mm steady without support. I'll have to give that some more thought. The foam rubber padding is 2" thick and I can wrap it at least twice for 4" of foam. I sure hope that will absorb most of the vibration. The only other alternative is to use a monopod. Again thanks for your help.

I would try the monopod. I use one for sports photos. I used it a bit in the vehicle but it can be hard to maneuver.

they are hard to use. you may have to shoot up for a bird or left or right. there is no telling where the action is. most likely it is not straight ahead.

Wow, great information here. Such a detailed list and exactly what I am looking for.
I will have probably multiple questions after I read through all the details.

Thanks much.
Also if you have a couple of samples of photos from there would you mind attaching a few?

Just remember that the original post, plus all the responses except your own, were made FOUR years ago.

Things were different then. The world has changed. 2021 is a new reality.

Also, the original poster did post many African pictures in the Photo Gallery.
