Video HDMI query

I have a Sony handycam HD ACVHD I have connected the video cam to a Viltrox 7 inch HD LCD monitor. It works well playing back videos from the camera. It also works as a live feed from the camera but i can hear an
intermittent highpitched sound like a speaker feed back, its very faint. The live picture on the LCD screen is good and the zoom functions normally. The connection cable is HDMI. Any electronic experts out there who may know if that sound may damage my gear. Thankyou Yvonne

You are hearing some computer-generated data from the camera filtering through the audio circuit of the monitor. Do you hear the same noise when connecting your a77 or a99?
I suspect it is non-damaging if the functionality is not impacted and the sound level is low. I would not use the combination if the sound were high.

If you say you have the problem with live feed from the camera then it's feed back.

Thanks Tom, No noise or problem with connections to A77 or A99 so I assume the problem is with the camcorder Will keep trying to solve the noise before continuing to use it connected. I have contacted Sony with the problem but so far no reply. Thanks again Tom for the help.

Thanks BebuLamar, I suspected it might be feed back as I hear similar sound when fitting my hearing aids. Its not very loud but very high pitched. I will ask around for advice on solving problem. Sony have not replied as yet hopefully they may have an answer. Thankyou.

Most likely the feedback is caused by the monitor speakers (Guessing yours has them) feeding back via the camera mic. Just turn the gain all the way down on the camera. Or if that is auto only, turn down the monitor volume all the way.
