I finally found out how they are stealing the feeder, look at the attached photo and what is in his paw.

Put a little cayenne pepper in the seed. Won't hurt the birds but the squirrels hate it.

When I had feeders, I put those large, tilting parabolic hoods over them. When a squirrel got on it, he slid right off.
