The head may be more important than the tripod - and I think I would recommend using one of these -

I do not have a tripod for sale but I like this one for the money/weight and seeming stability .........

I own and use a Gitzo Studex 320 (an oldie but goodie) with Gitzo GH2750 Series 2 Magnesium Off Center Ball Head. It's heavy and stable enough to support my heaviest setup; Canon 5D Mark III with battery grip and Tamron SP 150-600mm VC. Bought the tripod from a fellow UHH in excellent condition for $75 shipped. Wow! It originally retailed for over $500. The ball head I found on ebay NIB for $100 shipped. Adorama has a new one on sale right now for $240. It took time, but I have $175 in a setup I could not/would not afford at retail.

So then I'm curious as to why you would advise someone else to buy and use something that you don't. Am I the only one that hears others talking about things that they know nothing about? Expert advice and you know the definition of expert, right? An ex is a has been and a spurt is a drip under pressure.

The only reason I do not have it is either I do not need it or can not afford it. I cannot afford everything I recommend ! You can take my advise/recommendation for whatever it is worth to you - the same as every one else - But I do have pretty good qualifications and I have done some research - probably a LOT of research........and experience.
