More than 100 people shot.

The rest of the country was celebrating the Independence Day holidays with fireworks and barbecues but in Chicago, now the capital of American gun crime, more than 100 people were shot.

Police said there had been "56 shooting incidents", including eight murders over the holiday up to midnight on July 4. In the early hours of Wednesday morning, they recorded a further 15, including six murders.

The holiday began with a relatively calm weekend but there was a spate of violence over six hours on Monday night, "predominately on the south and west sides of the city", a police spokeswomen said. "We supspect several incidents were retaliatory in nature and alcohol was a factor in others".

The Chicago Tribune, which keeps a tally of violence in the city, recorded 102 people shot between Friday afternoon and Wednesday morning made up of drive-by shootings, fights and bystanders caught in crossfire.

Two men arrived at different hospitals believing they had been hurt by fireworks, only to learn they had been shot.

Academics studying the violence in Chicago, where more than 700 people were k**led last year, have attributed it to the fragmentation of big gangs, ready availability of weapons and drugs.

So, if you are ever visiting the USA, I'd advise you avoid those neighborhoods in Chicago. There are some nice things to see about 760 miles east of Chicago, like Independence Hall in Philadelphia.

I thought guns were illegal in Chicago. Maybe all the k*****gs are perpetrated by those concealed carry holders.

Indiana is just across the unsecured border! And according to this site http://www.governing.com/gov-data/safety-justice/gun-show-firearms-bankground-checks-state-laws-map.html Indiana doesn't require gun show id checks. Check the article before going "ballistic"!

Yes, of course, according to your demented way of thinking you inept moron, it has to be the laws in Indiana that are responsible for all of the k*****gs in Chicago. What an imbecile and special kind of stupid you are. I have attended 100s of gun shows around the country in the last 25 years and I have yet to see one that did not require background checks whether it was the law or not.
You are a fool.

There might be some out of State gun buying going on, though I suspect the biggest supplier is good old-fashioned burglaries and robberies.

Sirrah, you are a churl and a varlet. You are a boil, a plague sore, ignorant as dirt, a clod of wayward marl, and not so much brain as ear wax.

If you will engage your minuscule brain you will note that I merely mentioned that Indiana has extremely lax gun laws. My brother in law lives in Indiana and has gone to several gun shows in Indiana. He says that he's seen many t***sactions without background checks, in addition parking lot sales are common. If you had bothered to examine the link I furnished you would have found verification of Indiana's loose gun show regulations. But it seems that you just jump into a thread without thought only with the object of insulting someone, anyone, with boringly repetitive insults. Fool, moron, imbecile, stupid seem to demark the extent of your vituperative vocabulary. You are truly boring.

Tell me. Is it true that your vile manners have driven your "friends" away? Or are you somehow able to restrain your childish behavior when you are in the company of others? I imagine that you at least try, otherwise you might be beaten up with dismal regularity. In case you hadn't noticed many Hoggers view you with derision.

Point taken. Certainly good sources, although my home State of Virginia has for many, many years been a supplier for firearms on the way to New York City, for example. I'd imagine that Chicago would be another end point.

Why would you advise him not to go there? Some people are encouraged not to wear helmets or seat belts or fall protection etc.

Burglaries and robberies should not produce guns if gun owners are responsible.

It's Chicago, Illinois, USA. Interestingly enough, even though the original posting seems to infer Chicago is the most crime ridden city in the USA, it is not. Per capita, St. Louis, Baltimore, New Orleans and Detroit have higher violent crime rates than Chicago. On the global front, just about every major city in Brazil and Venezuela have higher violent crime rates than Chicago, in fact, Chicago didn't even make the list of the worlds top 50 most dangerous cities.

Thank you, thank you very much! Your source is new to me, but I shall take note of it. Our "mutual friend" seems to feel that his replies must be as nasty as possible to hide the fact that he seldom has any substantive comments. I'm happy to have a lively discussion, but there should be some boundaries. He - whose name shall not be mentioned - is apparently unable to think his responses through before he looses them on an unsuspecting opponent. He reminds me of a third grade student who's just discovered a junior dictionary.

Why dost thou converse with that trunk of humours, that bolting-hutch of beastliness, that swollen parcel of dropsies, that huge bombard of sack, that stuffed cloak-bag of guts, that roasted Manningtree ox with pudding in his belly, that reverend vice, that grey Iniquity, that father ruffian, that vanity in years?
