I would note that while it's now abandonware, the still available and free Nik Suite contains Sharpener Pro.

Hmm...when I followed the link you posted to their website today, there was no mention of a $20 price option.

So their latest Professional version is $99 and their previous version, which was $69 is now being offered for $20.
I guess that would be a relatively inexpensive introduction.

There is however a 30 trial on the latest professional version. :)

It does actually work fine, but make sure you don't over do it. I always back off on the settings a bit so that it doesn't look like its been sharpened.

As for price, they periodically offer each of their products at reduced prices and if you miss it, just wait and it will come back around again. They have an email method to let people know.

I downloaded the free Trial version a couple of days ago. Haven’t had much of a chance to test it out but I did run about 10 or 12 photos through it. A couple showed a striking improvement over the original. The others maybe less so to the eye. At the bottom right of the screen are two boxes that show the pixel cluster before and after. On some photos you can definitely see how Projects sharpened the pixels. For 20 bucks I’ll probably buy it.
