You might want to check but......I don't think that all 65 points work at f/6.3 (Tamron at 600 wide open).
I've managed to get some good BIF shots with my 7DII and gen 1 Tamron 150-600 but.....not of very flitty birds.
I once tried to get an in flight shot of a barn swallow.......I haven't been the same since.

Quite possible. The Canon 7D2 gets very good reviews for shooting sports and action and it's possible it likes Canon lenses better than third party. There are some more settings in the Autofocus menu worth trying. I have to confess the number of choices are a bit bewildering if you don't shoot every day.

I don't regret the purchase of the Tamron; for the money and what it does it's a great value FOR ME.

My son has the first generation Tamron 150-600 and I have used it on the D750 and have had no issues with it focusing. It has always been very fast and accurate. Just a thought; maybe it just doesn't work as well with some cameras?

How many accurate BIF have you taken with it?

What is BIF? Initializing statements without first spelling them out is only understandable to you and maybe a few others.

Check out Arthur Morris' you tub video on Canon equipment and the auto focus settings. He explains it very well and shows the settings he uses. While he uses Canon equipment I also have Canon cameras and the Sigma 150-600 and the settings work just fine.

Its obvious after that answer that you cannot properly evaluate the responsiveness of the AF in that Tamron. If you think that pointing that lens to a STATIC subject is an adequate way of measuring how fast a lens is (regarding its focus function) you should re-evaluate your statement. Initializing "opinions" without having a clue is poorly understood by others and bring only confusion. But, hey, you learned something new today!

A few others? LOL! BTW, you are the FIRST "photographer" that ignores the VASTLY used BIF term. (BTW means By The Way......just so you dont get lost).

Do you have the "EOS 7D Mark II AF-Setting Guidebook" that Canon has as a pdf download?

http://learn.usa.canon.com/resources/articles/2014/eos7dmk2_afGuidebook.shtml
download in at bottom left.

I have not birds in several years but when my son come back home with the lens (he is 1200 miles away) I intend on going to the refuge and giving them a try. I didn't know you had to be shooting birds to evaluate the lens; there a lot of other subjects the lens is good for. I just love the one track minds.

Well, excuse me; I'm not on the forum of birds in flight. Again, the one track mind strikes again.

Here is the one track mind again. You may think abbreviations are understood by all but they are not, so grow up and get over it. Do you think for a second I could not make fools out you by using abbreviations from an area of lingo that you are familiar with. Lighten up because of you want to try to see who's the fool, I assure you I can bury in your ignorance.

Zero that I can recall but I have taken other action shots too. And for your information, my son uses the lens to photograph Nascar and sometimes he is right on the bunkers with the cars flying by him at 200mph, about 5-7 feet from him, and throwing rubber at him as he shoots the cars. I have seen all his shots and 99% of them are right on in focus and he is using a D80 to shoot them, so he does not even have the luxury of having the AF-S motor. So many of you constantly say how it's the photographer, not the equipment that make the shots, but you are the same one's (mostly) that stock a camera store in your houses and have to have the latest and greatest in everything with all the bells and whistles. How easily you have forgotten the great shots over the years that photographers got with manual focus and the slower AF motors. If some one is having trouble getting shots in focus with the Tamron 150-600mm lens, it's not the lens, it's the technique they are using.

You have more than 3 thousand posts here and you didn't knew what that COMMONLY used abbreviation is. I really think the only ignorant in this thread is you. Not only that you started with the condescending attitude when I asked you how many BIF images you took with the lens. If you made a fool of yourself and know feel ashamed don't take it on me. You need to grow up and lighten up. And stop with the silly threats, you sound like a twelve year old. With each post here by you, its you who is burying deeper....no one else. My advice? If you don't know what is been discussed....shut it. This is what happens when you don't.
