It's sad to see an old standard like Radio Shack bite the dust.

Our local Radio Shack is still open. I was told they were NOT going to close.

My second computer, after a Texas Instruments TI-99-4A, was a Radio Shack Tandy 1000. It was light years ahead of the TI but not quite as good as my current Dell XPS.
BTW, I paid more for that Tandy than I paid for the Dell. Of course there were numerous computers between the two.

Another chain a victim of the internet. They were great if I needed a single electronic component right away but their prices were exorbitant when buying bulk. Internet electronic supply stores had them in a corner price wise.

I remember well the days of Radio Shack and Lafayette Electronics - my favorite stores for a time it seemed. Personally I favored Lafayette though they closed and disappeared decades ago.

We used to have two in town - two different malls. One of them is still there, but they're not sure if they're closing.

I remember well the trouble i would go to to get the new catalog each year and the monthly free battery. They did out price themselves, that's for sure!

I still have my Tandy TRS-80 stored away safely, complete with all the add-ons acquired to keep upgrading it. Disks, manuals and even an add-on authored by Bill Gates giving Strings to the TRS Basic. Those were the days.

Ours was a locally owned Radio Shack. They said they were NOT going to close. Now closed!

Internet commerce giveth and taketh away. Many chain stores have fallen, and sadly there is more to come.
