I was taught to respect my elders. I never really liked the terminology "Old People" but this makes me feel better about it.
And if you aren't one, I bet you know one! I got this from an "old friend of mine!" I'm passing this on since I did not want to be the only old person receiving it. I guess it’s not a bad thing to be called after all.

"OLD PEOPLE"
Old People are easy to spot at sporting events; during the playing of the National Anthem Old People remove their caps, cover their hearts, stand at attention, sing without embarrassment.
They know the words and believe in them.
Old People remember World War II, Pearl Harbor, Guadalcanal, Normandy, and Hitler.
They remember the Atomic Age, the Korean War, The Cold War, the Jet Age and the Moon Landing. They remember the 50 plus Peacekeeping Missions from 1945 to 2005, not to mention Vietnam.
If you bump into an Old Person on the sidewalk he will apologize.
If you pass an Old Person on the street, he will nod or tip his cap to a lady.
Old People trust strangers and are courtly to women and treat them with great respect.
Old People hold the door for the next person and always, when walking, make certain the lady is on the inside for protection.
Old People get embarrassed if someone curses in front of women and children and they don't like any filth or dirty language on TV or in movies.
Old People have moral courage and personal integrity. They seldom brag unless it's about their children, grandchildren or their animals.
It's the Old People who know our great country is protected, not by politicians, but by the young men and women in the military serving their country.
This country needs Old People with their work ethic, sense of responsibility, pride in their country and decent values. We need them now more than ever.

Count me in also...Old age and treachery will always overcome youth and exuberance.

This is so true. And, you can actually talk with an elder and they will look you in the eye instead of repeatedly checking their cell phone every 30 seconds.

I reached 66 this year. I never really thought about getting older. It just kinda creeps up on you.

Not all but most is true, at least as far as this 81 year old is concerned.

I do remember some of the movie news reals showing some of the WWII stuff is concerned; the only radio WWII broadcast I recall is Roosevelt's voice from his 12/8/41 broadcast. The following events are recalled more easily.

I'll be 71 in 19 days and both my parents are still alive. Mom is 95 and Dad is 93.
They both act like they were whom the writing was about.

I too fall into the "old" category, even if I don't exactly feel old. Yes the pains linger etc. and I just celebrated my 65'th bday. I remember (vividly) Vietnam and other periods of concern. I was in the military from 1972 until 1992. I remember returning from Vietnam to San Francisco International Airport (then by bus through Travis Air Force Base, California) and the greetings from many of the people in the terminal. Not all were young hippies but most shouted or spit. I also remember the values and reverence that my parents taught me for the USA, (my dad was in the Army during WW2 in the Philippines after struggling to enlist (was underweight so he ate bunches of bananas to get to the minimum weight), then he was a good engine/air frame mechanic and taught the skill in Army trade schools and college in the early part of the war. He constantly volunteered to go overseas and was constantly told that he was more "valuable" where he was. Finally he went to the Philippines as a flight engineer. He barely missed the Korean war because he was in a "protected" civilian job. My point is that many of the people today don't understand the simple statement of a Democratic President (personally, I vote for the person and not for the party and while I disagreed with many of that particular president's views, I agreed with many more). I believe that his quote was something like, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country." Today, we seem to have many people that are wanting the government to provide everything rather then them working to provide it for themselves. As I pointed out to my wife, Yes, I draw social security, because I had a job that I paid into Social Security since I was 14. I am 65 now and retired at 62 because of disability. Social Security kicked in immediately. The wife is 64 and for the last 30 years or so (18 with me) she has always worked for herself doing house cleaning etc. and never paid into Social Security during that time. Now, she can't understand why they are making her wait until 65 or why she will make so "little". And she keeps telling me to get a job. LOL!

Much to agree with as I approach 82 but, maybe, we've just mellowed out. The lack of small courtesies is, however, very noticeable.

Quite right. The reason being we had two parents and raised in a family environment and were taught manners and respect for one another. Also, you were expected to succeed. I'm now 74 and I can still remember the look I would get from my parents if I did not say hello first to an adult from the neighborhood.

You forgot some!

Old people pass gas in public for all to enjoy
Old people take advantage of their age and are rude in public
Old people pay no attention to the rules of the road and cause road rage
Old people criticize those who do not do what they said they did but didn't!

I could go on but.....
