Hi, Is there a way to look at photos without using my camera or my computer. I'm wondering if there is a device similar to the little viewers we used back in the day to look at slide pictures. Is there any device outside of camera or computer that lets us do this? Thanks, Mike

Epson makes two photo/media storage & view devices - the P3000 and the P7000. They list for about $400 and $800 respectively. http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/jsp/ProductCategory.do?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=-12122

Some of the electronic picture frames may read jpegs directly from a memory card, and there are printers that can print directly from cards.

Wow... If you are going to spend that type of money, might as well put that into a better camera. That's way to pricey just for viewing a photo card.

You are right Mike. For that much $ I could buy a good used camera dedicated to just that purpose. I was trying to save a little wear and tear on camera and batteries but I'll save up for any needed repair and be ahead. Thanks for replies. Mike

I know, but you asked ;)
They are intended to be in-field backups for professionals. I would look at the electronic picture frames and see if there is one that can directly read your type of card. They are generally not that expensive.

For about $10.00 to $15.00 you can pick up a good card reader, and view the cards on your computer through a USB port. I've been doing it that way for years with no problems. I copy the photos from the card to a folder, and then open them up with my photo editing software. Better to use a card reader, than hooking your camera up by cord to the computer. Hooking your camera to the computer can if there are any problems during transfer, corrupt your cameras firmware. It's not worth the risk and expensive to repair. I have friends that have had that happen to them during transfer. There are many on here who will tell you different, so that's your choice. A $20.00 to $30.00 card is a lot easier to replace, then an expensive camera repair.

I have never had a card go bad from using a card reader.

I have a Sony multi-function DVD recorder. I bought it to burn a DVD from SD, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo or xD card. It shows all the pictures on the card and then you choose which to burn or all to burn to disc or just do a slide show. You can also record from camcorder or from a VHS tape player. It was $199. and portable as long as you have an inverter in your car. Doesn't run on batteries. It is about 5 1/2" by 6 1/2" by 2 1/2".

How big a picture do you want to see? something between a monitor and the camera lcd? You can buy a cable to link the camera to a modern tv. You could buy a cheap p&s that uses your type of memory. You can import to an Ipad then export to the cloud.

I'm really not concerned with size of picture. If it's the same size as the LCD that's OK. I just want to look at pictures on my flash card to decide which one's to keep so I can print and which one's I can get rid of. I think a lot of us take pictures and then don't print them off. I do at any rate and now I have about 10-15 flash cards that I need to look at to decide which photo's I want to keep. I don't really want to put them on the computer as I can't get rid of them then. Am I the only slacker here LOL. Mike

If you are saying you want to delete them directly from your memory card without using the camera, you are playing with fire. The FAT corruption demon is just waiting in the shadows for you.
Seriously, copy from the card to a harddrive and ALWAYS reformat the card when you first put it back in the camera.
In other words only allow the camera (and that's one camera model too) to write to or delete from the memory card.

I agree completely with Festina.... Copy pictures to a file on computer, and then format card in the camera, not the computer.
