Just wondering if buying a refurbished CF card is worth the savings? Not trying to be cheap, but why pay close to $50 for the same card that I can buy for $30 plus free shipping.

I have never run out of memory on my SD card, but I like the idea of the FC in the camera as a back up.

Why not buy an CF adaptor that will take an sd card? Good forever and you can even put a micro sd adaptor in the CF adaptor and take any card?

I didn't know there was such a gadget.
Thanks

I don't know about used cf cards. I use mine all the time in my D810. Might be worth the chance to try it and then let us know how it works.

The question I would have is how do you "refurbish" solid state memory? What does that mean? Returned merchandise (why)? New case? Reformatted to a smaller size because of bad sectors?

Personally, I buy the best quality and highest performance (that my camera can use) cards available because the images are too important to risk losing 400 because of a cheap card, and when shooting sports, the burst rate is too important to compromise by a low speed card (and who wants to wait extra time to download?). Too bad Lexar is getting out of the CF card business - they were my go-to choice.

Excellent point, all I know is the seller claims the card is refurbished by Sandisk. How they do it well past me!
Thanks

I think the best choice is either getting a new card, or the adapter.
Thanks

Thanks Bmarsh,
Just wondering if there are different types like " extreme pro" or other differences between adapters?

All they can do is clean it and perform a memory scan to make sure all of the cells are okay. I doubt they would re-plate the contacts.

That makes sense. I'm probably going with a new one or an adapter.

Thanks,
Cookie

I prefer not to take on other people's problems especially when it comes to my photography equipment. We get only one chance to capture most of our shots. I've never had a problem with my memory cards and I don't think I would want to start now.

[quote=Bmarsh]Why not buy an CF adaptor that will take an sd card? Good forever and you can even put a micro sd adaptor in the CF adaptor and take any card?[/quI had two for my Nikon D70s. The first worked fine for awhile in the camera and allowed me to use 32gb SD cards when the camera would only support a max of 4gb CF cards. I used this setup for about 3 years then the camera failed. I replaced the camera with a used D70s and it would not use the SD card adapter. NOTE: all firmware was updated in the camera and everything else appeared normal. The camera also intermittently reports that the CF card (any of my 4) is NOT formatted even if it has already got 80-100 photos on it. So the inability may be internal to the D70s. I've gone back to the CF cards and try to keep a few shots on each and only format at the beginning of a shoot. Often, removing the card and reinserting it will get it to function after reformatting. My newer cameras all used SD cards (I keep two 64gb cards in the D7100 and two in the D610). My backup SD cards are all 32gb.
