Has anyone used the sigma lens and what do you think of it? I tried one used by a friend and the HSM focus was extremely fast, no lens creep at all, nice feel to zoom and focus, no manual focus override when in auto focus, not a macro but can focus to within about 1 foot.
wasn't as sharp as some at 18mm, good above 28mm all the way to about 225mm, then a little soft at 250mm.
has anyone else had experence with this lens? Thinking about buying it.

Have you compared it with the Tokina 18-270mm?
I use that Sigma lens as my all-purpose everyday lens (not that it does everything perfect). I am happy with it. It lets me get close when I need to and its longer range is nice. I do not use the OS system in the lens as IS is in my camera, blurriness when both are working-trying to stablize each other.

Thanks for the reply, you must have a sony since
you have IS in camera. I have a Sony A77,the 16-50
SSM and the 70-300 G SSM. Looking for a lens to use
for a walk around so I don't have to keep changing the
lens.
I tried the Tamron 18-270, But thought it took to long to focus, some hunting. Where the sigma was really fast to focus and no zoom creap like the tamron.

That is exactly why I purchased this lens. There are times that I use a macro or wide-angle (10-20mm) and other times that of the other lenses I have is better for that shoot. However, 80% of the time it is the Sigma 18-250 that is on one of my A500's.
When I was looking for this type lens, the Sony did not have great reviews and was more money. The Tamron 18-270 was really close to the Sigma, but I decided on the Sigma beccause it was a 72 and the reviews were more consistanly better than the Tamron.
Yes, I have one on a D7000.... good lens! And, it even takes pictures!
