Do you know why they were covered, seems strange to me. If it is for shelter along the road surely they could be built any where on the road - why especially bridges??

Ahhhhh Mike, Multnomah Falls, grew up just a few miles away near Parkrose. You got a great shot and no people - good on ya!! Lovely series, brought back many memories.

Some outstanding pictures of many of my favorite places. I just got back from Crater Lake last night, my wife and I camped for a few days. still quite a bit of snow but not like your photo.

Another gorgeous landscape series Mike. All of these are beauties, but my personal favorite is the second one. In that one, the twisting course of the river, the low hanging clouds in the distance, and the fall color make this one super special in my book.

originally, because the boards that were the roadbed would get slick and the horses could slip.
also, you may notice that almost all have some kind of windows or openings so the horses could see out and not get spooked,
