Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ300

I'm not understanding something once I download my photos ito Lightroom CC when using the "picture effects" on my new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ300 bridge camera. When downloading into Lightroom, it doesn't reflect that I used a picture effect. I've shot in RAW and JPG, but the "picture effect" I selected when capturing the photo doesn't show once downloaded into Lightroom CC. What am I missing? Thanks for anyone that can possibly assist me.

The "picture effect" is probably only applied to the JPG and not the RAW and the RAW is what you are viewing. There is a setting in Lightroom to ignore the JPG in situations where you shoot RAW + JPG in order to avoid confusion. Check this Google Search page to see how to turn on the feature to see both file types:

Thanks, however; I did shoot only in JPG as I initially thought that RAW was the reason it wouldn't download with the picture effect. But, it still didn't show the "picture effect" when I downloaded it into Lightroom CC using only JPG. This has really got me baffled. I really like the selections of the "picture effects" provided, but just figured out how to keep them on the photo when downloading.

So if you take the same photo with two different "picture effects" they appear the same in Lightroom? How about in another photo viewer like Windows Photo viewer or Preview (Mac) - still the same?
I can test this in Lightroom when I get home from work.

Yes, still the same - no "effect" that I used is shown. Nope, not even in "Preview." However, when I do use the "Scene" selection, i.e., romantic sunset glow, vivid sunset glow, soft image, etc., those photos did indeed reflect the "scene" I selected when I download.

So I tried my Lumix GX85 on different "picture effects". When shooting RAW I noticed that on Import the Lightroom thumbnail preview showed the "picture effect" at first. And then when it drew the next versions of the preview {from the RAW file as opposed to the camera generated JPG - I am guessing} the previews no longer showed the "picture effect" and all were similar. [On import my Lightroom seems to show a preliminary thumbnail in the Grid view and then draws one or two updates to the thumbnail with each one adding more resolution. So the preliminary thumbnail has the effect and the subsequent ones do not for RAW.]

If I shoot with RAW + JPG Lightroom was displaying the RAW without the effect and the JPG with the effect and shooting only with JPG (Fine) I saw the effect.

Granted this is not the same camera but the effect should follow the JPG. Sorry I could not provide a solution.

Hey MichaelH:

Thank you so much for your efforts. After reading your response this is what I did discover (and it FINALLY worked for me):

1--Go to LightroomCC Preferences and check off “Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate photos"
2—Select RAW & JPEG FINE on my camera
3—I took pics using “low key, sepia, and dynamic monochrome” in “effects” mode
4—I took one pic using “image of a soft flower” in “scene” mode

Needless to say I was determined to figure this out, and with your help, I did. So, a big THANK YOU for your response!!!!

It is good that it works with RAW + JPG as then you get to have your cake (the JPG) and can eat it again later (the RAW). But as you saw there are many "Presets" in Lightroom to play with also. You may be able to find a Lightroom Preset that does something similar to what you want in the camera provided "effect". The in camera "effect" will only be attached to the original JPG but the Lightroom Presets can be used on the RAW to create many different versions of the exported JPG. If you find Lightroom presets to your liking then the RAW file provides more options after capture. Your "taste" may change in the future so the RAW file is good to retain (at least for any image you feel is a keeper).

I do have a few Lightroom presets to try. However, I just knew there had to be a way to use the camera's effects mode. Just couldn't figure out how to get it to download.

Thanks again!! :-)
