Hope this is not a double post but bought this new lens because the Tamron SP 70-300 F/4-5.6 Di VC USD was not getting as sharp as I was hoping for. Does anyone have this lens and was it a good purchase. I probably should have asked in UGG before I bought it but I was in the store getting an extra battery for my D7000 and before I knew it I walked out with this lens.

I don't have this newer version but I do have the earlier version of this lens. It is probably one of the most versatile lenses I have! I use it on my D300 and my wife uses one on her D7000. It's a great walk around lens that covers pretty much all the ranges. Here's something to think about. I believe Nikon just announce a newer version of that lens. It's an 18-300mm VR! If I were you I would return your lens if I could and get this lens because it would give you a greater reach.

My experience much like yours - first DSLR acquired in 2006 was a Niklon D70s. Was offer Tamron's 18-270 - for reasons I could not articulate I did not like it. Returned it and got Nikon's 18-270. It served as my walk-around thru the D70, the D200 and the D300 (I traded up). I think it is a great lens. For Nikon's FX, the 28-300 is its equivalant and just as good.

Yes and Yes. I have one on my D7000 all the time. Here are some links.

I've had the 18-200 for several years and just love it. A time came, however, when I lusted after more reach and purchased the 70-300 Nikon. It too is great, but a little heavier and I miss the 18mm wide angle. I agree that the Nikon 18-300 would be fantastic if it becomes available before we grow old.

Thank you all. I was looking for a walking around lens that would not require a lot of lens changes (get paranoid about messing up the inside of the 7000 while changing in the wind). This seems like a good all around lens so now thinking about keeping it - besides, I am not a pro and am not out to "Wow" anyone...Will post some shots later when I have something worth showing. Thanks again - Rick
