I am an aspiring photog and have been taking photos of my grandsons baseball team for two years and giving the parents a CD of the photos that I took. They really enjoy them. My problem is one of the parents called last night and asked if I would be interested in taking pictures of her daughter in her HC attire. I said I would love to try. My question is, Is there something specific that I should do or avoid. I believe that I have all the necessary photo equipment. She would like some inside and some outside photos. Any help out there????
I did my youngest grandsons a few years ago. The first thing is to ask the Priest/Minister if it is ok to take photos during the ceremony. Go to the rehershal so you can orient yourself to take photos during the actlual ceremony. I would make sure to get a photo of the entrance. Reciept of Communion. Take photos inside the church. Make sure you get a photo of the daughter and the Priest/Minister either at the alter or another appropriate location. Take some photos of the proud parents and daughter in front of the church. I used a 18-135 mm lens to shoot the whole thing and it worked out fine though did push the iso to 400 and used fill flash inside the church. Have fun you will do fine

Be careful, some priests will not want to be distracted by the flash. Go to the rehearsal and ask the priest what he will approve.
Thanks for all the hints from everyone. Will put them to good use.

I got a shot of my grandson a few years back. He was in the traditional Catholic white dress. My daughter sat him on a nice lawn. He couldn't balance for long but I got the shot. I shot at too small an aperture so in post I blurred the background. It turned out great at 11 x 14.
At our Church, they actually have someone dedicated to taking pictures of all the recipients. Saves on the distraction of many people taking pictures. The pictures are then available for the parents to order themselves some.
You may ask the mother to check for approval - and perhaps you could take pictures of more than just the one child if there is no one taking pictures.
