Micron Technology today announced that it is discontinuing its Lexar retail removable media storage business. The decision was made as part of the company’s ongoing efforts to focus on its increasing opportunities in higher value markets and channels. The Lexar portfolio includes memory cards, USB flash drives, readers, and storage drives for retail and OEM customers.

https://www.slrlounge.com/lexar-is-shuttering-say-goodbye-to-lexar-memory-cardsHmmm. That's disappointing. Like many here, I own a Lexar card reader and SD and CF cards. I also recently purchased a Lexar 512GB external SSD drive from Costco for $124. Its a speed demon.

I wonder how long Micron will provide support for the Lexar products that are still under warranty.
Your Lexar card will NOT automatically stop working just because the manufacturer has stopped making them. As with ALL temporary storage media, it WILL eventually get old and fail. At that point, buy a SanDisk, Delkin, or whatever. Very likely other manufacturers will step in to fill the void left by Lexar's departure. It's called "market economy", yes?
That is most disappointing.
Thank you for the link.
To Bad, they make great products and have great service
Lexar and Sony are the only two companies producing the XQD format memory card right now. My Nikon D500 uses the XQD card. If Sony stops production then I wonder if the format will be phased out.

https://www.slrlounge.com/lexar-is-shuttering-say-goodbye-to-lexar-memory-cardsThe Lexar division is being sold off, it will survive under the guidance of another company. Who that will be won't be known until the sale is completed and announced. The world's second largest removable media company won't simply fade away.

Sony patented, and owns, the XQD format. Lexar is the only company so far to franchise the technology from Sony. SanDisk and Delkin are both currently working on franchise agreements but none have been finalized yet. You will never see XQD in Canon cameras because of Sony's ownership, that's why Canon has adopted CF Fast cards.
Lexar manufactured the chips used in their SD cards and likely the memory in their other storage devices. Who is buying that activity and will the newcomer maintain the Lexar quality standards.
