Photoshop CS6 move tool

Please help. I have worked on one image probably over 2 weeks, off and on. I have an image of a baby I want to put on a digital background. I have watched many tutorials and am doing just what the directions say, but the move tool won't work, at least it has worked a couple of times, so it is intermittent. Have used the quick selection tool, the rectangular marquee tool, lasso tool and they don't allow me to move the image into the new background. I can "place" the image but I can't place it if I have to cut out part of the baby. I tried resetting the tools and unclicking auto select, but it still will not move the image to the background. Am a PS newbie, so any help would be appreciated. I tried print screen on here so you can get a better idea of my settings, but it does not allow me to do so. Am attaching files. Thanks!

I just did a fast cut and paste job and it worked OK. I'm not sure this is what you are looking for as far as composition but it does combine the 2 images. I use PS 7.0 so the steps may be different but I opened both photo's in PS side-by-side on the screen, selected the baby (Magnetic Lasso tool), then clicked on the "Move" tool and dragged the baby over to the background image. Sometimes you can have trouble when the 2 images are of way different sizes, as these are. However, it seems to work OK in this case.

Open Base image in photoshop. Now file open second image. Both images will be in the header bar. Do your mask.
Now see instructions on the image below. If you are still having problems you can send me a private message and phone number, if in US, and I will walk you through it. Jim

These steps will work in version CS6.

I have had to call adobe before because my tools were not working, that being said I have one now in LR that's not working. They go in and reset some stuff.

Thanks for working on this. Unfortunately, I already did those steps. It still won't work. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Ok if this simple procedure won't work something is messed up. Call adobe Customer service 1 (800) 833-6687 and follow all the prompts till you get a voice. If you allow them they can log onto your computer and figure out what is wrong. A friend had a big problem yesterday and called them. No charge but he is on the monthly plan. Not sure what will happen with CS6. I would still give them a call. It might take a un-install and re-install. Hope you have the disks.
