Note the curved talons. One can be moved to front or rear for a better grip. They typically grab the fish in the direction the fish is swimming. One problem is that the talons can make it more difficult to release an oversized fish and end up getting drowned. I have seen them "remove" the head of a fish in flight, probably to reduce the squirm! No, I didn't get a picture!

I have tried to get that first image and usually wind up with nothing more than the splash. The dive is just so quick that it's extremely hard to follow with a long lens (500mm prime). I will keep trying.

Outstanding set. I watched an eagle grab what I think was a large trout. It was pulled down to its neck and wing tips before it could or would let go. I have pictures but the quality is not too great. Thanks for sharing..
