Need some advise. If I mail a memory card to our son, and the post office x-rays the package, will it ruin what is on the card ? Thanks, and I won't mail until I hear from some techies. Wilbur

If you just drop it in the mail, it might. My advice is to take it to the post office and tell them what you need and they'll stamp it so it doesn't go through xray. I've mailed them numerous times without a problem other than the one where person receiving it doesn't know how to read the card.

Memory cards are sensitive to magnets, not x-rays. X-ray machines are not magnetic.

Besure to back up all the photos, just in case. The card might get cracked or even lost in the mail. With the back up, you can at least replace it.

That was also said about film and X-ray...don't believe it. I lost a few rolls due to x-rays of film I forgot were in my luggage. The film I carried on and which was hand inspected was fine. If they are important, why take the chance.

Luggage X-rays are more powerful.

X rays are not magnetic, the machines that generate them set up large magnetic fields, at least that's what I've been told , Bob.

Depending what card you are using. I use SanDisk and they are pretty proof as you can see here:

So this card is pretty safe to mail, unless the postal service loses it. :)
