I am looking to use all my AF nikon lenses. I was looking at the D7000 but was waiting to buy the newest one and this has been out for 2 years and I am thinking that maybe they will come out with a new one soon. If I don't buy this one I was wondering what would be the perfect Nikon to buy. I love shooting scereny and people. Since I live in SC I have plenty of mountains. I also Like a camera that is well built since I am use to the old heavy Nikons like the F3. I don't like a very light camera. This will be probably be my last camera since I am retired I can only afford one and want to buy a good one. Does any one think new ones are coming in July or by September. Nikon will never say I sure wish they one at least say something like why don't you wait for a couple of months. To see what the newest one is. Thank You

There is a rumor of the announcement of the $1500 full frame 24mp D600 in September.

You are absolutely right. Maybe they will come out with a new one soon - or maybe not. I have a D7000, and I'm waiting to see what the D7100 is like. In the meantime, you can't go wrong with the D7000. No matter what they do with the D7100, you won't regret getting the D7000. You can get a refurb or look on ebay.

Think of all the great pictures you're missing by not having one now. The D7000 is a great camera. I use it more than the D300s and D700.

Ditto; D7000, Now. I've loved mine for the past year and a half and it allows me to be patient waiting for my D800e ordered in February. Waiting is not for us old retired guys.

I don't see the rapid improvement in DSLRs stopping soon. I believe it is following something like Moore's Law for computers: a doubling of capacity and halving of price every 24 months or so.

So unless you are in very ill health or over 90 I'd not think of your next purchase as your last. I'm planning on scrimping for an upgrade every two to three years as part of the cost of doing business. Heck, it's cheaper than film was and at least you can reuse your lenses.

For example Nikon recently came out with the bottom of their line D3200 that has a sensor that blows away the one in the D7000 and D5100. I expect both of those to see an upgrade soon to keep the line sensible. The D7000 is a little longer in the tooth so I expect it next. But I have no actual information on that.

A friend who was in his 50's bought a new car and said that would probably be his last - he was too old! He bought two more after that. Another friend is 93, and she is still living life as if she were in her forties. She used to go waterskiing every year on her birthday - into her 80's. One days she said her mother was coming to visit, and she was going to take her out in the boat. Everyone though she was kidding, but then Mom showed up. For extra money - to buy a new boat every few years - she used to clean houses a few days a week.

Think young/stay young.

That's what I always tell myself when an expensive item drops in price months after I bought it. I could have waited six months and gotten a lower price, but I would have missed six months of use.

I've heard it's better to ask forgivness than permission.
Haven't risked that with my wife yet.

That argument has been around at least since the early days of personal computers as they evolved daily. It still holds true, doesn't it?

Will do. I replied to Jerry's comment re: what you miss while waiting for something newer/better to come along.

Nikon is dumping the D5100 at fire sale prices. I can see an upgrade in that series soon or eliminating it altogether. I know it's a crop sensor but look at the specs on the D3200 for the price..WOW..And that's an entry level camera?

I saw they dropped the package price $100 at Costco and so also have the impression that the D5100 is next to go. Even though the D3200 is now out retailers are still selling the D3100...at a better price!

I expect the D5200 to be announced soon because the D3200 now has a better sensor. It will no doubt have as many or more MP as the D3200 (24) but I hope will retain the higher ISO capability and other features that make the D5100...such as the articulated screen and front and rear infared inputs. I wouldn't be surprised to see it include GPS and hope for improved HDR capability.

The D7(1/2)00 might precede it but I haven't noticed them cutting price yet on the D7000.
