My CPL won't "turn" anymore. In order to use it, I'm having to unscrew and screw a little each way. Anyone know why?

Yes, it's probably stuck! Ha Ha. Really, what I would do is take it off the camera,
find a couple of small rubber bands that can be wrapped around each wheel of
the filter and see that gives you enough grip to loosen things up. There's probably
just a bit of grit stuck in there and with a little effort you may be able to free it up.

I can think of one of two reasons. It might be cross threaded. Look at it closely. If such be the case attach it to your lens and press down on a hard surface until it snaps into place. Or maybe some dust got in there and jammed it. If that happened squirt some WD-40 on it and that should loosen it.

Try using a couple of the filter wrenches turning them in the opposite direction.

There are no threads between the rotating rings to get crossed.

That's the last thing anyone should do. If oil got on the inner surfaces, it would be nigh on to impossible to clean it without disassembly. which would probably toast it.

Try WD-40 on a Q-Tip.

DW40, lots and lots and lots of it. I have found if I submerge mine in it for about and hour, then dry it off really good it works fine again.

PLEASE!!!!!! no WD-40, unless you really want to buy a new one. New items today always has new technology impeded, perhaps USB-3.0 or Bluetooth???

Will you humorists QUIT with the WD-40. We don't know how experienced or knowledgeable the OP is. WD-40 is the LAST thing one would want anywhere near camera equipment.

Snapping it into place could very well further damage the threads. IMHO, a very bad idea. Also, I wouldn't let WD40 anywhere near any camera gear / accessories. Sorry to have to disagree, but my position is based on personal experience. >Alan

Fortunately I'm not "stupid" enough to ever have WD40 near my camera gear and thought I'd check here first if anyone had advice but I'll purchase a new one. I make my living on a ranch and use WD40 a lot, but my camera isn't something that will be seeing it.

There are usually only 2 reasons for "failure to rotate". Either something is stuck between the concentric rings, or "out of round". The latter is a terminal disease. If you are lucky the filter will magically "unstuck" it self. But look at it this way-- you now have a new 1 or 2 stop ND filter.
