I have a Sony A6000 and 3 lenses. A Sony 35mm prime, 55-210mm kit lens and Rokinon 12mm ultra wide. They meet my needs for the most part but I'm often switching out lenses. Have been thinking of adding the Sony 18-105mm as a walk around lens, anticipate paying $500-$600 for it. Just wondering if a bridge camera might be a better option and interested to hear the thoughts of any members who have struggled with this themselves. Cheers and thanks.

For $600 you can get a nice used Sony RX10 version I.........or, maybe even a II !

I have a Sony RX10 iii. It is a fun camera, but the 1 inch "type" sensor (actually around 5/8") is no substitute for a larger sensor. So, if it is an either/or decision I would say go for the lens.

While the bridge camera would be more convenient, the lens quality and sharpness would not be the same as well as the sensor size. It really comes down to how important picture quality is to you. If all your going to do with the photos is look at them on your computer or TV, then the bridge cam will be fine, but if you are going to make some enlargements and do some serious cropping, then the Bridge cam. might not do.

I have had fantastic luck with my Nikon P900. The zoom range on the camera is equivalent to 24-2000mm, and it seems to be quite sharp in all ranges; sharp enough to enter pictures in my photo clubs contests.

With the three lenses you already have, do you really need the 18-105mm lens? Couldn't you simply use the 55-210mm as your walk around lens, and carry one of the other two on you for situations when a wider angle than 55mm is desired? That 35mm is compact enough to practically fit into your pants pocket! You'll hardly know it's there.

Put that money towards an awesome weekend trip, don't blow it on an unnecessary lens.

I have a Nikon 18-200 mm lens on my Nikon and had had no reason to buy any additional lenses except for a macro lens.

I had the same dilemma, and I got a Tamron 18-200mm on ebay. I'll sell the 55-210mm. I also have a 50mm and a Meike 6.5mm fish eye.

But the 55 - 210 won't fit in your pants pocket ! Does A Tamron 16 - 300 come with a Sony mount? That's my favorite walk around lens better picture quality than the bridge cameras .

Although I personally prefer a 3x max zoom, if you like the 18-105, it would compliment your system - walk around or otherwise.

The Sony Zeiss 24/1.8 is an OUTSTANDING walk-around lens for a crop E mount. Vastly superior to any zoom for the platform.

I have a Nikon B700. I like it. Smaller than the P900, long zoom, 20 mpix, RAW. Once you set it up for how you want to shoot, it is pretty easy to use. I put up some shots on another post. Fine for Web and certainly smaller enlargements. A long zoom is very fun to use.

I have the 18-105 on a a6500 and have decided, after using it, that it will be my ONLY lens.

Great lens. I have one. Amazon has it for about $560 used. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00ENZRQH8/ref=sr_1_1_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1498049143&sr=8-1&keywords=18-105mm+sony&condition=used
Have fun!
