How to save a zoomed pic on the 3100

My Question is when you have a picture , say the moon, and you make it zoom in on it to make it bigger and crop it, is there a trick on saving it on the camera as zoom.. or does this have to be done on the computer and software..
I have tried saving it but when I go back it is not there.. Am I doing something wrong?

ON my d5100.
View the picture (do not zoom in).
hit the "ok" button, you get a menu, choose "trim", follow instructions on screen.

I tried it on a pic that was still on the camera and it worked fine. Thanks for the tip and I also found it in my manuel so I marked it with a tab.. I just had not gotten that far into the Manuel.. Thanks again..

I've had my d5100 for a little over six months, still learning new things it can do. Have fun learning.

Me too. I got mine last Oct and was quite intimidated by it. Now I have it down pretty good but certainly can't remember all the things it does or what some of them do exactly. I use it nearly every day.

I crop a lot of pictures. I sometimes do them in-camera using the process described above but mostly do it in Photoshop Elements 10. It has a similar learning curve to the camera and though I am also now a happy camper with it likewise it will be years before I consider myself and expert with it. I also use it daily.

I find it helpful to keep the manual on my PC. You can then use search to find things. On a PC "ctrl F" brings up the search dialog for the pdf.
