Wonder if someone who understands the options can provide guidance. Please only post if you actually know something relevant to the question.
I am getting a message that my icloud storage is nearly full and they want me to authorize monthly payment to up it. I am allergic to authorizing any automatic payments.
I understood Google provided free online storage for photos. If that is true my question is how do I direct my photos there instead of to iCloud? I have recently gone to using Camera+ as my camera App.
What is your total on line storage? Personally, I've never shied away from recommending Dropbox. Now, I pay $99 per year for 1 Tb of storage, and believe me, it is bulletproof.
To move, whenever you get a new cloud storage vendor, it should be as simple as opening the new service and iCloud in a browser, and just doing a copy/paste. The Google Drive iOS app says it will synch your photos, etc so it should not be a problem.
I recently got the same warning message, and after much soul searching, I elected to spend 99¢ per month to increase my storage capacity for photos (and numerous other forms of iPad data) from 5GB to 50GB. Not at all fond of the subscription format, aka the "annuity for the provider" format, but iCloud seems the easiest and most straight forward way to avoid slowing my iPad down. Dropbox does not seem reliable, it frequently says it can't load such-and-such an image or other file often for incomprehensible reasons.
I'm not sure what the limit is on Google, but it is one of the sites I use. I have Google Photos on my iPad set to automatically backup to my Google account when connected to wifi. Currently have about 8 years of photos backed up. I also use DropBox as well as iCloud.

I get the same iCloud storage warning all the time, since I've been purchasing some iBooks.
Here's a recent URL from HowToGeek. Maybe it'll be of use to you.

Thanks to all ideas so far. The above one reminded me I have unlimited storage with Amazon Prime. We get more than our money's worth with it because of free shipping. We sometimes use the video service too.
So the problem is how to shut off the photo synching to icloud and automate it to Amazon?

Good luck automating to prime storage
I used prime storage for a bit myself. But it was a 100% manual system and no versioning
Ended up switching to Crashplan for unlimited, automatic, and multiple version backups, of course that won't help with an IOS device

My experience also, I have a Mac and an iPhone. The .99 / month for 50GB is worth it to avoid the hassle.
I pay $2.99 a month for 200GB in iCloud storage. That's roughly $36.00 a year for 200 GB. Since I don't take thousands of pictures like some do, that is sufficient storage capacity for me. It's an automatic monthly payment, and I haven't had any issues with it.

I went for it for now. It is easy to cancel.
Still would prefer to replace it with my unlimited Amazon storage.

I use ICloud for my IOS devices (cheap, seamless and automatically migrates photos between devices) and Amazon S3 for everything else. If I remember correctly, Amazon Prime does not allow raw file storage.

I'm not worrying RAW files with this issue.
However, when I went into Amazon Prime I found a bunch of images I had previously loaded to it. I'm pretty sure they are RAW files.
Playing with ways to upload images from it. Does this work?
