For those of you who own current Sony cameras and have not used the 2X zoom function available to you, it does work acceptably. Having said that, it does force you into jpeg mode with all the shortcomings, but if you need a longer lens and don't have one, it will suffice. This example was shot hand held @ 1/200th f/11, at 200mm (400mm extended zoom), through a double pane glass door. Not tack sharp by any stretch and some grain, but when nothing else is available....... This also happens to demonstrate that the in-body as well as in-lens stabilization works as advertised.... You won't like the image if you pixel peep, but it's not intended for enlargement/printing.... ;) Second image is original/unprocessed jpeg....

I use this function quite often with my A77. Like you said they are not perfect but great for facebook posts. This was with a 16-300 Tamron with the 1.4x extended zoom. Same as your picture, through double pane window.
