I love magnolias. They bloom in such interesting shapes. The rhythm of the lines of their blossoms fascinate me. Here's one I photographed earlier today -- no, it is almost 4 a.m., so that makes it yesterday a little less than 12 hours ago.
There's a bee in the photo that I hadn't noticed before until I blew it up.
One of the problems I have in photographing magnolias is that the flowers are usually not on street level. I am not about to stand on the roof of my car -- 20010 Corolla and who knows if standing on it would leave a dent ! So I end up using a 70-300 telephoto lens, which means that often shots that otherwise would be nice have too much blur on portions of them. Well, that's just the way the game goes, I guess. Take a lot of photos and some of them will come out. Most of you in this forum probably have a much higher percentage of good photos per shoot than I do. I am certain that most of you know a lot more technically than I know.
Another magnolia photo. There are about five buds on this tree that will be opening late this week and that are close enough to street level so that maybe I won't have to use a telephoto lens. Don't worry -- I won't plaster this site with lots of magnolia photos -- but I do love photographing the flowers because when they open they do so in a way that often provides interesting composition.
If you look closely you can see a bee's bum within the flower.
