Sooooo, now that the prices for Nikon 100th anniversary commemorative items have been announced, what are they thinking? You can buy a set of the "holy trinity" f:2.8 lenses for $6500 or you can get the commemorative set with metal case for $1500 more. I'd be happier if they offered a $1500 rebate for my 50 years of loyal patronage.

Think I'll wait for the T-shirts "coming soon".

I sort of like the 1/2 scale Nikon F model, but for the price I can get one that works.

Don't worry about it. If you do not like what they are doing, forget it.

Yes, I saw that last night. I think many people will buy with the hope that they will increase in value over the years. When there is a waiting list to buy a $2,000,000 car, Nikon's prices are peanuts.

There will always be those who will buy this special offering. Problem is, most who buy will not use them for fear they will drop in value. And those folks would be correct. Even if you do not use them in the false hope they are going to go UP in value. This special issue will never be worth more than they are now going to sell for. They are for collectors who want something in limited quantities, they are not a good INVESTMENT. And also for bragging rights. Nikon, I love you but not this much.

Me too! I think this is some marketing whizz's idea to whip up some quick cash. I doubt most serious photographers have the dough or would spend it on something like this.

Have you seen the limited edition Pamela Anderson model with the big dials on the front?

I think it's called the 'DDf'

Special edition commemorative items or otherwise limited distribution stuff is not intended for use - collectors buy them.

In 1971, I purchase a Leica KE7-A with the Elgan 50mm F2 lens - I was fortunate to have been working at the Lecia distribution center in Rockleigh NJ - there was an overrun production on these. They were a military issue Leica M4-2, made for the Canadian government. I think I paid around $450 for it, without the leather case. If you look at the current value, I believe that mint, unused copies of this combination are going for around $20K to $24K these days.

I thought I was getting an amazing deal when I sold it in 1978 for $4k, unused. If only I had known.

How much for a commemorative Nikon used endoscope with Streptococcus contamination with free disinfectant? No wonder Nikon's medical division is bringing the company down.

Or today you could buy one used H6D-100c Hasselblad for it.

In all seriousness, $450 is a great price for a Leica at any time. You never used it? At $450 you should have bought 3 of them, two to use and one of them to sell later as a collectible.

The Nikon anniversary products have to be seen as collector's items and as such they have a premium price.

I didn't see the Nikon D820/D850 in the Nikon 100th anniversary listing, did you?
