There have been numerous postings and much discussion of Glacier National Park, one of the most beautiful places I've visited. However, in the 6 months or so I have been following the Hog, I haven't seen anyone mention Waterton Lakes National Park, which is in Canada and shares a common border with Glacier National Park in the U.S. Together, they form the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park. We visited both on July 16, 2011. We went at the end of a 14 day, 4,000 mile road trip from the Bay Area that took us as far as Jasper, AB, Canada. We drove a "loop" from Whitefish MT back into Canada, then to Waterton Lakes National Park, then to Babb MT for lunch, then drove east to west on the Going to the Sun Road back to Whitefish. We took the "cruise" on lower Waterton Lake that takes you across the border into Glacier, where you can spend time hiking or relaxing, and then get on a return boat. We only spent about 30 minutes before returning, as we were going to Glacier. It is about one hour from Waterton to Babb MT, where we had a good lunch at a "funky" place called Two Sisters Cafe. It's only about 9 miles from there to the St. Mary entrance to Glacier. We are glad we took the cruise, and consider it "not to be missed" if you are in the area. I hope you enjoy the photos, which were taken with a Canon S3 IS "bridge" camera (6MP).

Beautiful pictures. Missed that when we went to Glacier NP. Good excuse to go back. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you. I suspect you are one of many who didn't make it to Waterton. We're anxious to go back too.

Thanks for the photos, we are in Glacier now, and have many spectacular photos. We are in Many Glacier and very poor internet and cell phone service. Sent a post card quality image yesterday, and it still has not gone.
Probably doing Waterton tomorrow.
Thanks again.
Duane
Thank you. I was a park warden there in the early 60's right after I got out of high school. An inside connections got me the wonderful job. I patrolled mountain trails by horseback from my base in Cameron Lake. My only living uncle still owns a ranch just East of Waterton.
You should have had the boat captain let you fish for the lake trout, that hang out where the streams run into the lake.
Thanks again for bringing back the memories.

Glad you enjoyed my photos. I hope you have good weather and are able to enjoy your visit to Waterton. We are planning to stay at the Many Glacier Hotel the next time we go, probably next summer or the one after. I'm looking forward to your photos.

Glad you enjoyed them. It sounds like you had a great job there.
I did an AMTRAK tour of Glacier and Waterton Lakes in 2013. Beautiful country! I did not do the boat cruise that you did, so found those pictures very enjoyable. Four days in the parks was nice, but I'd have liked to have had more.

It truly is beautiful there. Glad you liked the boat cruise photos. We only spent the one day at Waterton and Glacier, as we generally keep moving; next time it will be longer though.
