I posted the color version of this in the gallery. It's listed under 'sidewalk negotiation' if you choose to compare. Thanks to Apaflo for his encouragement.

You posted this same Street Photography image at 3:24pm today as well as reportedly having posted a color version in the Gallery. Is there a reason for posting it three (3) times? Just curious...

Fair question. I posted it in color in the photo gallery because that's where I've traditionally posted all of my images. I don't do street photography but realized a mono coversion of this shot might be appropriate in that section so I tried it. Upon further consideration, I decided it was still the same image and didn't belong in two separate sections so I withdrew it.

Between my posting and withdrawing the image under street photography, the section manager weighed in with some kind words and asked me to re-post the image. I did so out of respect to his request. In hind sight, I should have just posted it in the photo gallery and walked away as I always do. A lesson learned. It isn't easy getting old. 😄

I prefer this black and white version--it has more punch to it.

Can't say I agree with much of your reasoning, but that is always your choice.

I see virtually no point at all to posting images to the UHH Gallery! You can't get any depth of discussion...

Second, you absolutely do Street. This shot, either in color or BW (which are very distinctly different), is pure Street Photography! The subject is not really a tangible object, but instead is the relationships between various tangible objects. In the Gallery they look for pretty. Here we may like pretty but we look for the message too.

Once again, I really like that shot! I like the BW more, but the color version has appeal too.

I enjoy going for a walk and bring my camera along to keep me focused on the beauty around me. Health issues reduced my mobility so I'm only able to post once every few months now. I shoot in jpeg and, beyond cropping, do very little post processing.

I've always posted in the photo gallery because it suits my needs. I'm posting just to share and have no interest in giving or receiving critiques. I realize we're all different so I respect the other sections and the people who use them. I'm just not one of them.

My interest is in shooting the places where I walk and the things I see. I rarely take pictures of people because I find it uncomfortable. This shot was an exception. There are people here who do it well and I respect their work but it's just not my thing.

I do appreciate the time and interest you gave my first post in your section. I seldom leave comments anymore because I've lost my fine motor skills (my wife is typing this) but I do believe in and always appreciate positive comments.

I've depleted my energy on this post and thank you for all your time. I wish you and all those who post in street photography all the best. I've enjoyed my short visit.

John

I saw it twice ... once here and in the Gallery. I agree with our modulator ... it needed to be here in B&W. That is what I thought seeing it in the Gallery. Please do not walk away ... RJ was just curious as to why three posts. Nice explanation ...

I agree, once old, it ain't easy ...

Thank you for taking the time to comment, truckster. I'm not walking away because of RJ's comment. It was logical and deserved an explanation. It's just that I rarely take a photo with people, other than family shots, so I don't really have anything to post here.

Going by your capture you may want to start looking at people other than family for your pictures ...

I've posted a few in the past that might qualify as street photography but the section didn't exist. Here's one of them. I've lost my mobility so I stick to quiet places now.

I strongly sympathize and identify with your 'loss' given that I have experienced similar mobility issues and, sadly, no longer have a wife to help with some portion of heavy lifting. You are blessed and I'm confident you know that. My original post to this thread was in no way meant to be critical, simply curious. You responded with open-handed and forthright candor. I very much like your Midsummer Night Dream image. IMHO it has far more impact in color than it might in b&w. Bottom line, John, you have a great eye - sharpness, composition, lighting, color or b&w. Kudos. /Ralph

Thank you for your kind words, Ralph. My main reason for remaining with UHH over the years is the nice friends I've met. Now I have a new friend with you. You made my day.
