Affinity Photo
Have any UHH members bought and used Affinity photo for Windows 10 or Ipad or Mac and have any comments or pros and cons about it, would like some input on it.

I find myself using it in preference to Elements and LR.
Do you think it works as well as LR or better and does it replace LR at a cheaper cost and no monthly fee?
I use it with windows 10. It has a learning curve like any program that is useful and flexible. I purchased a Udemy course to get me through the basics and then some. It was worth the price because it made the program do so much more for me. I shoot almost exclusively in RAW and the program lets me get the most out of my images. There are free youtube tutorials as well as Affinity's tutorials. I use faststone image viewer to download and keep my files organized. I am not a pro, so there may be things that you are looking for that I am not interested in. Like all programs that deal with a lot of data, you have to be sure your computer is up to date and has plenty of memory. My RAW files are loaded onto my solid state drive for speed and then the final images are moved and backed up to a large and then external drive. Just because the product is relatively inexpensive, it does not mean it is limited.
I also use this program on a PC, Mac, and even on an iPad. It is a powerful program that requires about the same effort as Photoshop does, but, like Photoshop, you will probably not use all that it is capable of doing. It was Apple's product of the year when it first came out, and it has continued to get better. You can even use most of the "after market" filters designed for Photoshop, and you can't beat the price (except for Gimp, which is free and a nightmare to use). I think it's going a thorn in Adobe's side.
I have been using Affinity and I find the learning curve not as steep as Photoshop
I shoot in RAW and the develop persona module is extremely good
The tutorials are excellent and it is worth it
Wormwood65: Thanks for asking this. I've been looking at Affinity myself, and wondering, but I had not thought to post a question. I've been a casual user of LR and PS, but I only use about 10% of what they're meant for. When I upgrade to a newer iPad, I will probably seriously look at Affinity Photo on the iPad.
I have so much time and effort invested in LR, and I am so comfortable with my procedures and results, that I am not currently inclined to learn something new. I guess that sounds rather narrow-minded, and someday curiosity will lead me to explore Affinity. It appears to be an excellent program.

For Lightroom users, the real question about any alternative is: How do I get my edits, key words, stacked photos, captions, titles, etc. into the alternative system? And, will all my plugins still work with it? I have about 70,000 photos edited and cataloged, and I sure wouldn't want to lose any of the work I've done on them!

I use AP and really like it. I've dropped my CC subscription. The Affinity Photo does everything I need and in some cases better than PS. Particularly prefer the Inpainting Brush Tool to the PS equivalent. The masking is easier and better as well.
Just bought Luminar from MacPhun. Easiest yet and grows with your understanding and wanting to do more.

For my rather basic needs, I find Affinity to be quick, accessible and best of all, free of the tyranny of subscription. LR is a deep program with the vast resources of ADOBE SYSTEMS INC. behind it. I would not be comfortable saying that Affinity is or will continue to be "better".
I strive to make photos that require a minimum of post processing --a crop, the removal of a powerline, the sharpening of a flower petal. Further, I confess a mild but persistent ethical issue with the use of digitally mutable elements such as the selected colors and artificial skies offered by current image processors. Though surely they are art, in my view, heavily altered photos at some point cease being photographs and become a means of expression deserving another name.
I just looked and it's only $39.99. Normally $49.99.
