This is my first real try with focus stacking using Halicon Focus 6. Shot 12 images then combined, then did some exposure work in PS Elements. Critique please. All feed-back welcomed.

It is a beautiful photograph but I don't see much on the stacking end. Not a lot of the photo is in focus which is what we are after using stacking. Also, it you zoom in twice you will see there is a lot of ghosting around the petals. You may have had wind or a change in perspective as you did your stack (which you will always have BTW).

I am no expert on how to do a proper stack but I do know it is not as easy as it sounds from trials I have done on my own. I did some flowers earlier in the spring with a rail (for the first time) and it was not easy. Then I tried doing it with the focus ring, without a tripod, using interval shooting at 1/2 sec intervals (moving the focus ring very slightly in between each shot). This was much easier and the result was better. I got this tip from David here on UHH. Here is a link to his website where he gives lots of tips on Outdoor photography.

Wind is a huge issue even if it is a calm day. It doesn't take much to make those leaves and flowers blow around. If I was serious about it, I would purchase one of those nifty tents or make one myself.

Happy Shooting, love the colors in the photo!!

Wind was an issue. I did the focusing by using Liveview and moving the focus point around for each shot. Thanks for the input.
