What is the difference between Free download and Buy now versions?
Seems like they still use the subscription model- $49 per year. Or am I missing something?

You know I didn't notice that, you're right defeats the purpose doesn't it?. There is another alternative that is a one time purchase by Helicon but not quite as complete as this one. It's called Helicon Photo Safe. More of a search engine and organizer without the developing capability but if you are using something like Affinity you don't need the develop. I believe it's $35.00.

"Free download" - you don't have to pay for downloading.
"Buy Now" - downloading is included in the price.
OK, that's my interpretation. Too many websites use the term "free download" without ever explaining what they mean. In this case, if you click on the "free download" button, you will download the trial version. I clicked it away again before it started downloading.

You likely get a either a subet of function or it has trial type status and no updates. Not quite bait and switch but a close cousin. Very few free lunches in good software.
Thanks, I tried it and it seems like a good program and simple to use. Do you know if it has a red eye correction?

Yes it does in Editor on the main tool bar on the right side.
The more I play with this the better I like it. Has a lot more options in editor than Lightroom.
You get what you pay for!
I have been using it and love it, Much, much better than lightroom. IMO.
