Hi everyone I've been asked what I charge for equine photography at our local adult riders club for taking photos of the riders. I have no idea what a fair price would be .
Any ideas please would be greatly appreciated..I have had more than a few enquiries. Last saturday I declined payment because I had no idea what to charge.

Thanks in advance for your help

It depends on the area in which you shoot, how good the photos are, and how much people are willing to pay. I would not take anything less than $25.00 per picture or $50.00 if you sell the same person 2-5 photos. That is based on what I could get where I live.

Setting prices is always tough. Would you be selling individual prints, or be charging a club for a days shooting. I think that your best option would be to set up a printer, and sell prints on site, but it takes at least one helper to sell and print while you are still shooting. You could also have order forms for larger prints, to be delivered later. You will sell more if you have samples hanging up, especially of the larger sizes (11x14 and 16x20 ). Good luck.

We do equine events and sell prints on site. We sell them for $10.00 each. I would love to get more but people complain enough paying $10.00 for a 5x7. I WOULD NOT do if for less than that. Your time is valuable too. I have seen people at equine events charging $25.00 for a 5x7 and I have paid it gladly. It is better to start out higher than lower. Easier to go down than up. I would do $25.00 if you think it will work. Good luck to you!

PS your pictures are great!

Basically, they want you; you didn't go hat-in-hand to them. You have the upper hand, so go in with confidence, give them your prices, and act like you know what you're doing. When you go to the dentist, you want someone who exudes confidence. Just enjoy the experience, and go home with some money in your pocket.

I can tell that you love the subject of horses, and the photos show it. Those are really beautiful shots and you are worth what you charge. You Rock!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, if they like the photo, they will buy it regardless, you will always get those that wish to knock you down, just tell them to have a nice day, and sell to those that want them.

I'd charge the $25 for 8.5X11 and $40 for 11X14. Very little adjustment is needed to the image to print both sizes. I'd have a copy of an image on both sizes to help people choose. I'd shoot every horse and horse with rider while there. You'd be surprised the inquiries that you get from people who didn't initially buy a print.
