The repeated curve of the horizon and the drift wood or stump make this picture.

Thank you. I will agree that the stump adds a different element to the photo, but it lacks the tonal qualities and varying depths that the original post has and that is what drew me to that image.

mmmmm ... potential. A wide angle lens. Get right on top of it. But .. then the pic is about the stump and not the layers and fog. My only solution to the problem of too much uninteresting foreground would be the use of a boat ... or a drone ... or a big wind to make huge waves .. or a colourful sunset creating interest in the water .. geez .. guess I have lots of solutions but none of them were there at the time.

Thank you. But I was with my family, it was raining and I only had a few minutes to get some shots with the lens I had on my camera. I would love to go back and take some shots at different times of the day and seasons. Fortunately for me everyone was inside avoiding the rain so I had the beach to myself.

I do like this version...the log serves as "a rough beast, slouching toward..." the vanishing point in the skyline declevity at the opposite shore.

Cropping close to the "tail" and to the "right rear foot" of the "beast" places it's head, fortuitously , at the lower right intersection of "thirds" lines.

Withal, a pleasing composition.

I love it when that happens.
