Dropped my lens...twice...
...onto a polished concrete floor.
First it was from my lap, out of my camera bag. My strap somehow got tangled with my 45mm 1.8 and as I pulled the camera out, the lens came flying with it. It bounced pretty hard and skidded across the floor. Thankfully there appeared to be no damage. Then I put it onto my lap to change to that lens, and it slid off my pants back onto the floor...I thought for sure I would have dented or cracked it it. Upon inspection and use...0 damage. I guess it pays to lightweight lenses :-).
Never had I (until now dropped a lens)...and then I did it again within 30 seconds of each other. Total bonehead move.

Careful owners rule and those that drop lenses drool....
Sorry for your loss (of pride maybe), seriously, and hopefully no damage, format doesn't matter in situations like these....
Accidents happen. The important thing is to learn from the mishaps so as to not repeat the same mistakes in the future.

Absolutely. You got lucky and proved that drops don't always end in disaster.
My 2 lens drops have been saved by sacrificial lens hoods at $25 each.
Lucky you, most fortunate, no damage.
Being that the lens is only 116 grams probably helped.
Your camera bag must have come with dividers. You can configure the dividers to create separate compartments for each item. Your lens will be isolated from the camera. I have mine configured with a large compartment for the camera and smaller compartments for other items.
I haven't been so fortunate. I've spent $1,500 repairing 3 dropped lenses this year. Nikon 14-24 (twice) by knocking my tripod over and Nikon 24-70 dropped on a concrete garage floor. I can't say enough for Nikon repair. Good as new.

Straps make me nervous. Although they are designed for safety and convenience, they provide a handle for hands and feet and pets to knock something to the floor. Airbags are similar. They save lives, but they also cause injuries when they deploy.
Since you seem to be having a run of luck, maybe you should invest in some lottery tickets.
Wow !!! what a slick gadget. great invention.
