Yes. That will work fine.

Any clean, lint free rag will do. Doesn't need to be microfiber, thought that will work.

Cheap isopropyl "rubbing" alcohol works fine, too.

May or may not solve the problem, though. Sometimes that error message is due to some other interruption in communication between the lens and camera. But, cleaning the contacts is a an easy, DIY fix that might work. You never know, until you try.

Isoproproyl alcohol is the cheapest contact cleaner you can buy. And effective.

I avoid using fluids especially around electronics. Use a pencil eraser.

Yes, But I would rather use Contact Cleaner which is made for electrical contacts https://www.amazon.com/CRC-5103-Quick-Electronic-Cleaner/dp/B000BXOGNI/ref=sr_1_3?s=industrial&ie=UTF8&qid=1496742939&sr=1-3&keywords=contact+cleaner with a microfiber cloth

"This video is unavailable."

Good text, though. You have to be careful not to get link inside the camera.

DO NOT USE A PENCIL ERASER !! The contacts usually have some metal coatings that could be damaged or erased right off. The eraser could leave crap behind ... GOOGLE the subject to see why it's NOT a good idea.

What lens is giving the problem? If it is a 24-105 L it is quite likely the ribbon wire and cleaning the contacts won't help. Worth trying the cleaning but don't be surprised if it doesn't work.

I am in agreement with Mborn. I also use an electric contact cleaner but my brand is different to his. It is made by TMC and it is called Spray Cleaner.

Very bad advise. Pencil Eraser is abrasive. Contacts have very thin gold plating that can be damaged by eraser.

Not to mention the eraser particles getting into the camera. Otherwise an eraser works quite well for electrical contacts.

Rather than "Rubbing alcohol" which is about 80-90% water, try "boat stove" type alcohol. It is very volatile & flammable so don't use it around any flames but will not harm the plastic around the contacts. Just use a damp, not dripping, rag. It's available at most hardware & paint stores, & Wal-mart as well as marine and camping stores.
