I'm considering getting a Nikon D7200 or the new D7500. The D7200 has greater resolution, but does the difference between 24 mp and 21 mp matter that much? I do mostly nature, rivers and landscape photos.

I think one would not be able to tell the difference!

No on the MP but you might like the extra card slot in the D7200 for back up when on critical missions.

Differences may be most visible in a larger cropping ..... but in general, especially doing serious landscape with a crop frame, I would want the more mp.

It may be too early, but you can try some comparison sites. The D7500 lost some specs from the D7200.

Based on my tests with the D7200 and the D500 (same sensor as the D7500), the differences between 21 and 24 is minimal. In real world usage, I honestly can't tell the difference and I'v never found myself pining away for the lost 3 MP of my D7200 when shooting / reviewing images from my D500. I'll have a full test out in about 6 weeks - I never just grab a camera for an afternoon and post a video just for the sake of views or being first. I'm getting my D7500 on Monday and will use it almost exclusively for my wildlife work the next 4-6 weeks and then come back with a verdict :)

Common sense would suggest you opt for the D7200 as the other one is going to cost around twice as much I'm guessing . And the
Difference in price is not going to get you much of a improvement over what the D7200 offers, if any . right of the bat they take away a few main things that make a difference , and give you a couple of things , that you can live without , better off investing in a good lens with the money saved than getting that stripped down camera .

reading Nikon's release it looks like Nikon is not claiming better photos but improved video? So, whats your goal?

You will never see the difference. You will never start to see any difference until you double the figure. Only about 14% difference.

That's OK; even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

I agree with the "no one will notice" response. That similar to when I asked my wife if she liked this or that version of a post processed photo. She responded, "What difference?" (To be fair, I had the same problem when I first started out using post with minor changes. I think everyone did!)
