Let's see if I can make this short......

I'm 78 yo and have been taking pictures since my dad gave me my first camera at 6yo - a Roy Rogers 620 camera.

Since then I have owned many cameras - one Minolta and a host of Canon bodies and lenses. Years ago my favorite was the original F1 and a 50mm lens, an 80mm lens and a doubler.

I belonged to several photog clubs and entered contests and learned from many experienced people.

I shot high school girls track and field for the participants. I contributed pics to the local newspaper and the high school annual. The fathers bought many 5x7 of their skinny daughters and I used this to support my habit (hobby).

I was also the photographer for the Southeast Dallas County High School Rodeo Association and these sales also paid for my hobby.

I converted to digital, sold all of may film bodies, lenses, filters and darkroom equipment and purchased digital equipment.

I shot literally thousands of family pics and vacation pics including cruises.

Now my requirements have changed and I'm looking to move down. I'm currently looking at the Canon 60D and need some feedback from anyone with any knowledge and/or experience with this body. I do like the 7D and the 5D Mark 3 (and other high end) but I just can't justify the cost.

Any help would be appreciated.

Charlie

I also shot many, many family pics and vacations.

Just thinking, Charlie, as I do not own a 60D but have great respect for that camera, have you checked on You Tube for Vids about the 60D? Also you probably will find a lot of info if you do a Google search for "Canon 60D Instructions." Welcome to the Hog and good luck with your info search.

Welcome to the Hog Charlie. The Canon 60D would be an excellent choice for a crop sensor body. I had one I used for years until I upgraded to a 7D MKII. The thing I miss most on the 7D MKII is the articulating screen. An excellent 60D can be had quite reasonably from many vendors. If you are going FF, a 5D MKIII would also be an excellent choice. I'm currently using a 5D MKII and it does everything I need in landscape and portrait.

Well, I've used many film cameras such as Canon F1 (orig), FT (not FTb), Mamiya, Bronica, etc., and Canon C100, Canon EOS 1D M II. I'm seriously considering the 60D. My research indicates this is the body for my purposes. I know there are 'deals' out there but I'm not interested in refurbished, reconditioned, blemished (seconds), or grey market. I'll stick with a reputable local prof store or the CanonUsa site, or reputable dealer like ADORAMA, etc. They sometimes have incentives like throwing in a this or that.

Welcome! I shoot Canon and have a 5D MK III and 7D MK II. I appreciate the cost factor, I am 72 and on social security. I was able to purchase both of these bodies from the Canon USA Refurbished site. I would only buy a refurbished camera from the manufacturer. Canon gives a 1 year warranty on refurbished equipment. Good luck.
