They come to visit every year - - - usually in groups of 2, 3, or 4. This guy (or gal) showed up in the backyard alone. (S)He slowly moved to the front of the house while I grabbed my camera and took the shot while (s)he was crossing the driveway. (S)He seemed a bit confused (perhaps lonely) and was seemingly unconcerned by my presence. That's been the pattern all year. They come up very close to the house, never rush their pace, and practice unsafe street crossing habits. They've also been putting on a little show by jumping off the ground attempting to pull something that interests them out of several of the trees in the back of the house.
Someone in Wisconsin thought it would be a terrific idea to hunt these magnificent birds. They are no longer endangered, but there doesn't seem much sport in shooting an animal that has such low flee impulse, and I am told make for an unpleasant meal.
What a fantastic shot, lesdmd!

Very nice image, Its amazing how the animals adapte to our presence
Hunting is not really a sport as far as I'M concerned, if you don't need the animal for food, or the "herd" doesn't need thinning I can see no reason to kill them.
BTW I am a firearms owner, and I have hunted in the past to put food on the table, I never have got a thrill out of taking a animals life.
